Our House & Genesis Shelter: Stronger Together!

Our House offers children and families experiencing homelessness the tools, skills, and resources needed to break the cycles of homelessness and poverty. Designed to enrich the lives of children and families, their programs include: Family Support Services, Early Childhood Education, Housing Services, and Employment Training.

In 2014, Our House and Genesis Shelter merged to become one organization, serving families experiencing homelessness at two sites. As a unified organization, Our House carries carry the legacy of an exceptional early childhood education center and emergency shelter.

Merging with Genesis Shelter added an emergency shelter to Our House’s core programs, and allowed for expansion of the Early Childhood Education program to a second site. We were honored to be a part of this transformation by providing Project Management services to facilitate the necessary renovations to become a “Bright from the Start” certified State of Georgia pre-kindergarten facility.

Just outside downtown Decatur is Our House’s original building. It houses six early childhood education classrooms, the Parent Resource room, where CDA classes are held, and administrative offices. In the heart of Atlanta, the Old Fourth Ward location houses the shelter, six early childhood education classrooms and administrative offices.

Watch the March 2015 interview with WSB-TV with Tyese Lawyer (Executive Director of Our House) and Nancy Friauf (Executive Director of Genesis Shelter) as they speak on the exciting transition and how they are Stronger Together for homeless families and children.
