Porter-Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center

The new Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center is located on a 23 acre site in DeKalb County, Georgia.  This multi-purpose facility, with the arts, music and entertainment as its core functions, has theatre seating capacity of 500 with a black box seating capacity of 104 seats.  This project was designed and constructed following the LEED® Certification procedures and has been submitted under the construction review process to obtain LEED® Certified status.  We are awaiting the decision from the US Green Building Council (USGBC). This project was awarded a Construction Management Association of America Project Achievement award in 2009.

This new Performing Arts & Community Center has 41,250 square feet and consists of three (3) levels: lower level, main level and tech level.  The lower level houses the orchestra pit lift and some storage spaces.  The main level houses the lobby, concessions, black box, auditorium and support spaces, public restrooms, interactive exhibit space, dressing rooms, classrooms and general offices.  The facility’s management offices, dimming and audio controls offices, gallery access, catwalk and main HVAC equipment rooms are located on the technical level.

The Project Manager (PM), Silverman-Steele Joint Venture was an extension of the Owner’s Representative that was assigned to the project. The Project Manager facilitated the process for designing and constructing the building and provided strategic guidance and assistance as a member of the Team.  The role as PM required facilitated, effective coordination of all the design and construction aspects of the project of the Architect and General Contractor.
